ophie Kipner is a terrible cook, mainly because she can’t – or chooses not to- follow instructions and recipes. She really tries, though, and every once in a while a plate will surface that doesn’t scare the guest away. Is it for this same reason that she cannot put a table together from Ikea by herself.

Sophie’s writing has appeared in Kugelmass: A Journal of Literary HumorFORTH Magazine, Metazen, and author Amy Ephron’s literary food blog, One for the Table. She grew up in a very hippy part of Los Angeles, California, called Topanga, where people with names like Rainbow Dan and Ocean are typical. She is a magna cum laude graduate of the Annenberg School of Journalism at the University of Southern California.

Aside from her writing, Sophie illustrates many of her stories and essays, and her artwork has been exhibited at various shows in the Los Angeles area, including Hollywood, Santa Monica, Fullerton and Laguna Beach in Orange County. Her illustrated greeting cards are sold online and in stores in Echo Park, LA, and on Abbot Kinney in Venice.

Sophie was also the host of a 19-episode web series on Channel 101 called Everything, which was chosen as a Vimeo Staff Pick and featured on NPR’s All Things Considered.
